Tried a 6 tin electric. Took it back to store due to valve issues. Saved up the extra to get the BBT 12 ton, and there is no comparison. Running it on about half throttle it splits everything the electric could not. Uses very little fuel for the time I spent splitting. Found a new use for the splitting block; sit on it with the ram on 45 degrees and the job is so much easier. I only burn hard wood, and this compact machine is brilliant for what I throw at it.

I always hesitate to recommend anything, because everyone's experience and requirements tend to be slightly different. However, having said that and after only using the splitter a couple of times, I have found it certainly does the job and comes up to expectations. I have been splitting gum logs with, with in some cases, particularly curly and obstinate grain . In most cases it has had no trouble in doing the job although when stalled a couple of times, it was only a case of reversing the log to complete. I am using my unit domestically, but I have no reason to feel at this stage it won't continue to give good service for a considerable period. My only criticism, if valid, is the assembly instructions could have been a little clearer with a larger exploded diagram to follow without the use of a magnifying glass for interpretation ! A good set of sockets would also be helpful (as I had) because you might be struggling with only an adjustable spanner. Generally speaking you get what you pay for and I regard the price as very reasonable.

Split some very large hardwood logs with knots throughout. Not a problem. Split 2 trailer loads in just over an hour. Won't split with an axe ever again.
